Our Mission

Hope for Javier’s mission is simple. Our goal is to change the predicted outcome for all boys diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a fatal childhood disease through funding research, advocacy and ultimately transforming the way healthcare is delivered to medically underserved boys.

Transforming Care

Studies have proven that access to multidisciplinary care adds on average TEN YEARS to DMD boys’ life expectancy.

The care landscape has advanced dramatically in the past 35 years – but not all advances impact equally.  Hope for Javier partnered with STONY BROOK CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL to change that by creating a comprehensive care model for this patient population.

This has brought equity in health outcomes, as well as access to clinic trials across economic, geographic, racial and ethnic groups.

Scientific Funding

Our focus related to research is to identify & advance projects with the best chance at prolonging life expectancy in Duchenne.

Everything we do must have a “YES” in answer to “Will this help add years to the lives of boys with Duchenne?”

Our core values

Focus

Our sole focus is to identify and advance projects with the highest probability of success toward prolonging life expectancy in Duchenne. Our definition of success is impact on the lives of children with the disease. Everything we do must have a yes in answer to “Will this help add years to the lives of boys with Duchenne?”

Creativity

We inject creative thinking, nimble problem solving and collaboration for faster and farther reaching results. The traditional healthcare model can be slow to change, unwieldy and subject to entrenched bureaucratic constraints. Boys with Duchenne don’t have time for a business-as-usual approach. Drastic circumstances call for bold measures. We identify need and create solutions, rather than do what’s usually done.

Efficiency

We live by the mantra “lean and mean”. This no-frills approach applies to everything we do – our timelines, our funding, and our strategies to create hope. Since inception, 100% of every dollar donated has gone directly to our programmatic efforts.

Leverage

Our organization is small yet mighty. We make our investments count extra by aggressively pursuing leverage in two ways:

  1. Leadership opportunities where our funding rallies more money from other organizations and agencies – like the CDC and NIH.

  2. Partnering with peer organizations, utilizing existing successful models as springboards for new programs.
